Independent handbag journal • buying guides • vintage • materials

The Big Bag Blog is an independent publication about designer handbags, vintage bags, materials, craftsmanship and the realities of buying and owning luxury accessories.

We are interested in the details that tend to get lost between a brand campaign and the moment someone actually spends their own money on a bag: how a particular leather wears, whether a shape is genuinely practical, why one model holds its appeal while another disappears after a few seasons, and what changes when you start looking at older or pre-owned pieces rather than only what is currently in boutiques.

Our coverage includes major luxury houses such as Hermès, Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Ferragamo, Mulberry and Miu Miu, alongside contemporary, independent and regional handbag brands. We also write about vintage shopping, resale, authentication, bag care, construction, materials and the wider collector culture around handbags.

What We Cover

The Big Bag Blog is designed to be useful whether you are researching your first designer handbag or have been collecting for years.

Our guides range from detailed model histories and size comparisons to leather explainers, care advice, resale analysis and vintage shopping guides. We also revisit discontinued bags and earlier creative-director eras, because some of the most interesting handbag stories begin after a model has disappeared from the boutique.

Rather than treating every new release as an instant classic, we try to place bags in context. That may mean comparing a current design with the archive piece that influenced it, looking at how an older bag has aged on the resale market, or asking whether a highly recognisable bag is actually practical to own.

How We Research Our Guides

Our articles draw on a combination of current brand information, archival material, historical references, resale listings, condition data and close comparison of existing handbag models.

Where information can change, such as pricing, current availability, boutique policies or resale conditions, we aim to review and update the relevant guide. When an article contains first-hand observations, commercial relationships or information that requires additional context, we aim to make that clear rather than presenting opinion as fact.

We also distinguish between popularity and long-term significance. A bag can be fashionable without being timeless, expensive without being well suited to everyday use, or highly desirable on the resale market without being a sensible financial investment.

That distinction is central to the way we approach handbag coverage.

Meet the Editor

The Big Bag Blog is edited by Vivian, who writes about designer handbags, vintage finds, leather, craftsmanship and the realities of buying and owning luxury bags.

Her work combines brand research, resale-market insight and a collector’s perspective to help readers make more informed handbag choices. She is particularly interested in how bags age, why some designs become enduring classics, how different materials and construction methods affect ownership, and the way older handbags can fall out of fashion only to become desirable again years later.

Our Editorial Approach

The Big Bag Blog is written for readers first.

We do not believe a handbag needs to be expensive, rare or difficult to obtain to be worth discussing, and we do not assume that a high retail price automatically means better quality or stronger resale value.

When we recommend or compare bags, the aim is to explain the trade-offs clearly. That includes practical considerations such as weight, capacity, leather durability, access, maintenance and second-hand pricing alongside design and fashion history.

We also try to avoid repeating luxury marketing language without context. If a bag is described as iconic, an investment or exceptionally durable, there should be a reason for saying so.

Commercial relationships, where relevant, should be clearly disclosed within the article.

Why The Big Bag Blog Exists

There is no shortage of handbag content online, but much of it tends to fall into one of two categories: brand marketing or fast-moving trend coverage.

We wanted to create something more useful in between.

The Big Bag Blog is for readers who want to understand a bag before buying it, who enjoy learning why a design matters, and who are just as interested in how a handbag looks after ten years as they are in how it looks on launch day.

Sometimes that means writing about a new Dior or Bottega Veneta release. Sometimes it means revisiting a twenty-year-old Chloé or Balenciaga bag that fashion has suddenly decided is interesting again.

Either way, the bag itself remains the point.
